Updated PhilHealth Contribution Rate As of 2024

You may have already noticed a slight increase in PhilHealth’s contribution. PhilHealth occasionally adjusts its contribution amount in order to sustain the benefits for everybody. Let’s take a look at it and learn more about the updated PhilHealth premium contribution.

What is PhilHealth?

But first of all, let’s recap what PhilHealth is, and what’s in it for Filipino Citizens alike. 

PhilHealth is a government-owned health insurance here in our country, the Philippines.  It was established in 1995 to provide universal health coverage for all citizens in the Philippines. 

PhilHealth offers insurance that ensures financial protection against unwanted medical expenses.

PhilHealth Contribution Rate as of 2024

Since January 1, 2024, a new PhilHealth Contribution has been implemented. It is now 5% of the salary compared to the previous year, which was 4%.

This change was made in accordance with the Universal Healthcare Law of 2019. PhilHealth has also adjusted the income levels, ranging from 10,000 pesos to 100,000 pesos. These changes are made according to their plan to expand and sustain the benefits for all of its members.

As you can see in the table above, the lower income bracket for PhilHealth contribution is ₱10,000, and the high bracket income is over ₱100,000. Once the income gets over the upper bracket, there will be a cap and the maximum contribution will be ₱5,000.

How to Compute PhilHealth Contribution

Let’s discuss how to compute PhilHealth contributions with a simple example.

Monthly Salary: 30,500

Latest Contribution Rate: 5%

Contribution: = 30,500 x 0.05

= ₱1,525

Based on the computation above, if your salary is 30,500, your contribution would be 1,525. You and your employer would divide the contribution in half. So it would be 762.5 for your employer, and the remaining half of your contribution will be shouldered by you.

My earnings are below 10,000, how much should I pay?

For those who are employed with less than ₱10,000 salary, the minimum will still be ₱500. 

I’m self-employed, how can I pay for contributions?

If you are a freelancer or you don’t have a formal employer, you can still pay for PhilHealth contributions. This can be done through Gcash, and it will be tagged as a voluntary contribution.

Can I withdraw my PhilHealth contribution?

No. PhilHealth contributions cannot be withdrawn.
